iFish is a software tool that generates a relational database from the database files of the iRiver H Series harddisk jukeboxes.

When the database is generated, it is copied to the iRiver H Series harddisk jukebox system.

iFish is released as a Java application. It consists of the following modules:

iRiver H Series Harddisk Driver

iRiver H Series Harddisk Driver description:

The iRiver H Series harddisk driver is a replacement of the previous iRiver OS Harddisk driver. The driver supports up to the H312 version of iRiver H Series harddisk jukeboxes and the iRiver OS prior to 5.2.
iRiver H Series harddisk jukeboxes are the first harddisk jukeboxes using small memory card (SD/MMC) as the harddisk device. The iRiver H Series harddisk supports up to 256 MB of memory card (SD/MMC), and the firmware version is no longer increased with the harddisk model. The iRiver H Series harddisk is mostly compatible with the iRiver H Series harddisk, and it is harddisk jukebox analogue of the iRiver OS harddisk, which also is compatible with the iRiver H Series.

iRiver H Series harddisk jukeboxes can be mounted into the Linux operating system (version 2.4 or later) as an internal harddisk device.

iFish is a program that generates a database from the database files of the iRiver H Series jukeboxes. When the database is generated, it is copied to the iRiver H Series jukebox system. The database must be created separately from iFish.

iFish can generate databases of various sizes and formats. For example, the following databases can be generated:

RDB (Rough database) format: this is the default database format. The database is saved into an SQLite database. The format is designed for databases of 16MB or less (2MB in the previous version).

SQLite: this is the default SQLite format. The database is saved into an SQLite database. The format is designed for databases of 16MB or less (2MB in the previous version). The SQLite database can be made invisible by using the option -d OR

As shown below, iFish is a Windows application that can be used to create and edit database files. Once created, the database may be transferred to and used on an iRiver H (formerly iHP) jukebox.

The following screen shots illustrate how you can use the software.

iRiver H Series Jukebox Software Compatibility Chart (original version 3.1)

If you have upgraded from a previous version of iRiver H jukebox software, the database may or may not be compatible. Therefore, it is important to check the compatibility chart shown above when creating or upgrading your databases. Upgraded databases from versions 1.x or prior are not compatible with newer iRiver H series jukebox software.

Common issues when using the software to transfer databases:

A database may not transfer successfully if it is greater than 2GB in size. If you need to store a larger database file on your harddisk, one solution is to split it into smaller (less than 2GB each) parts.

A database created in iFish may not be transferred to your iRiver H when the database name is too long for the H’s file name limit (the limit varies depending on the harddisk size and software version, but is somewhere between 12 and 16 characters). This is because iFish uses a naming convention in which the database file name ends in the letters IPG. You may need to manually remove this last character before transferring the database to the H.

Installation

You can install iFish on any computer with a Java runtime environment (JRE). To install the iFish application on your computer, you may choose either of the following three methods:

Download the iFish installation file (iFish.exe) from the download page.

Use the built-in installer provided by the iRiver H series: copy the install folder (included in the iRiver H series driver/CD-ROM disc) into a folder on your hard disk, and run it from there.

Use the built-in installer provided by the iRiver H2 series and newer models: copy the install folder (included in the iRiver H2 series driver/CD-ROM disc) into a folder on your hard disk, and run it from there.

Download the FileMaker Pro program

This is the method by which you must install the Windows version of FileMaker Pro on your computer.
After downloading the installer (FileMakerPro.exe), double-click on it to begin installation.

Use the standard Windows Installer

The iFish installation file is a ZIP archive file containing all necessary files for installation. Because of this, the installation program can be used to install iFish on any computer with a Windows operating system (OS). To do this, simply copy the installation file from the download page to the folder containing the FileMaker program. You can then double-click on the iFish.exe file to begin installation.

Note: The WinZip and WinRAR software are not supported by iRiver, and neither program supports the installation of compressed files in the ZIP file format.

The following optional steps are only necessary if you plan to use the Windows version of the iRiver H or H2 jukeboxes

2. Change the iRiver H (formerly iHP) driver’s file location on the hard disk.
